In the heart of the picturesque Swiss Alps, a unique and innovative event is redefining the boundaries of land art, fashion and architecture. The Traveller Fashion Show, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the serene Lake of Bretaye, marries stairs into a catwalk, all while making a profound statement about the impacts of tourism.
Crafted by a team of visionary architects together with HOXAR STUDIO, this extraordinary land art project came to life in collaboration with students from across Europe during the European Architecture Students Assembly (EASA) in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland.
The Traveller Fashion Show’s land art is far from conventional. It draws inspiration from the multifaceted world of tourism and offers a unique perspective on this global phenomenon.exposed on sky blue stairs, Each outfit represents a distinct archetype of tourists, from the adaptive traveler embracing local Swiss attire to the audacious explorers sporting architectural-inspired garments or partaking in daring heli-tourism adventures.
What sets the Traveller Fashion Show apart is its commitment to art and sustainability. The land art catwalk isn’t just a transient stage for fashion; it’s a delicate installation designed to grace the mountainside for months before being removed and recycled. The stairs are the meeting point between fashion and architecture.
Much like a tourist on a postcard, this installation stands out vividly against the breathtaking landscape. What’s truly remarkable is that the catwalk stairs seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, following the natural slope of the mountains…
For tourists arriving at Bretaye station, the hiking experience is elevated as they are welcomed by an infinite blue staircase, enticing them to venture beyond the beaten path.
Blending with Local Heritage
This project goes beyond showcasing the natural splendor of the Swiss Alps. It is a testament to the fruitful collaboration between fashion and architecture, with a focus on local craftsmanship and heritage. It celebrates the enchanting harmony between these two creative domains.
The Traveller Fashion Show is more than an exhibition of clothing; it’s an immersive experience that challenges traditional boundaries and invites everyone to explore the fascinating dialogue between nature, fashion and architecture. It stands as a testament to the ever-evolving landscape of creative expressions in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
